What does it mean to be apostolic?

God

We believe that God is the Creator and Savior of the world and that He is one. We also believe 1 Timothy 3:16, which tells us that God was manifested in the flesh (literally meaning “rendered apparent”) in the person of Jesus Christ. We affirm that Jesus Christ is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: three distinct roles and manifestations of one indivisible God.

The BiblE

We believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God and that every word of it is true. The Bible was inspired by God (literally meaning “God-breathed”) and was written by holy men as the Holy Ghost moved upon them to record it. We affirm that the Bible is the only guide to salvation and contains the instructions necessary for reaching Heaven.

Salvation

In Acts 2, after the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the disciples of Jesus, the Apostle Peter preached about the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to the crowd of onlookers that had gathered. Convicted by what they heard, the crowd asked, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Peter answered them in Acts 2:38: “…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” From that day forward, the Apostles preached this plan of salvation to the whole world, and we believe that it remains the plan for salvation today.

Life after Calvary

After repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost, we believe that God calls us to a new lifestyle: one that is void of sin and committed to holiness. In 2 Corinthians 6:17, we are instructed to come out from among the unbelievers, and to touch not the unclean thing. We accept that holiness begins in the heart, but understand that it also manifests itself in the lives we live in obedience to the commandments and statutes of God’s holy Word.

Personal Dedication

“Pray without ceasing.” “Give attendance to reading.” “Is not this the fast that I have chosen?” These are just a few of the commandments found in Scripture that urge us to maintain our relationship with God through personal dedication. We believe that when an individual begins their personal relationship with Jesus Christ through obedience to Acts 2:38, they will grow and mature that relationship through prayer, fasting, and the study of God’s Word.

The ChurcH

In Acts, after the day of Pentecost, we find that the newly founded church gathered regularly for worship and preaching. We believe that salvation is not complete without regular church attendance and the guidance of a pastor. 1 Corinthians 1:21 tells us, “…It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” In Jeremiah 3:15, the Lord said, “I will give you pastors according to Mine heart.” In Hebrews 10:25, the Apostle Paul instructs, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” We affirm that God’s plan calls for our submission to pastoral authority and faithful attendance at the house of God.
